Former Thrylos boss and the much loved Michel has taken his first management job since leaving the Karaiskakis. Olympique de Marseille today announced that Michel had joined them as their new head coach.

The Spaniard moves to the club on the southern French coast two games in to the current Ligue 1 season. Michel will be expected to turn things around quickly, after two defeats the club find themselves in 19th place and searching for their first goal and points in the league.

Marseille are in the Group stage of this season’s Europa League. With Asteras already assured of a group stage place and Panathinaikos, Atromitos & PAOK getting their play-off rounds underway this week, Michel could find himself back on a touchline in Greece in the coming months.

Marcelo Bielsa left the club in dramatic fashion this weekend after their second successive defeat. Marseille have lost the power and pace up front this summer of Andre Ayew after the player moved to the Premier League on a free transfer. So far Marseille have failed to make any significant changes to their playing staff to convince the fans they can improve on last season’s fourth placed finish.

Michel undoubtedly has a tough job on his hands. If, however, he can make a success of his new venture in France, then in OM he has a massive club, playing in a beautiful state of the art stadium, whom should be qualifying for the Champions League every year with relative ease.

From all the fans of Olympiakos – Michel, we wish you well.
